Sam Walker, owner of your favourite local independent department store Walker & Ling, will be running the Berlin Marathon on the 29th September for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The route circles 26.2 miles around the centre of busy Berlin, culminating in a spectacular finish under the Brandenburg Gate. The distance is equivalent to 19 lengths of Weston’s promenade, a route that Sam has been training on during the summer.
“I completed the Weston Super Half [marathon] in March,” says Sam, “and finishing on the Grand Pier with a very supportive local crowd was very special. This race will be a little bit further, and there are likely to be more like 60,000 people running the race. It should be a lot of fun.”
Sam is running the race with his two brothers-in-law, and the three are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for GOSH, a charity which supports the Great Ormond Street Hospital and children’s health, with new equipment, support for families and funding vital research.
