About Us

Walker & Ling is a proudly independent department store with over a century of history, known for quality, service, and a love of great style. We’re now looking for a motivated and fashion‑obsessed individual to join our team as a Womenswear Buyer.

The Role

This is a hands-on buying and stock management role at the heart of our business. You’ll work across all aspects of womenswear merchandising, from assisting with selection of next season’s styles to managing what arrives today.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing stock inventory across the Womenswear department

  • Receiving goods in and ensuring deliveries are processed accurately

  • Monitoring stock levels and reordering as needed

  • Planning and placing forward orders with suppliers

  • Attending buying appointments and trade shows

  • Working closely with the sales team to understand customer preferences and trends

  • Contributing to visual merchandising and overall department presentation

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need buying experience — just enthusiasm, common sense, and a genuine interest in fashion and retail. We’ll teach you the rest.

Experience that would be beneficial (but not essential) includes:

  • Working in fashion retail at places like Marks & Spencer, Debenhams, John Lewis, or similar

  • Experience in stock control, merchandising, or sales

  • A good eye for product, colour, and trends

  • Confidence in using computer systems and handling data

You Will Thrive in This Role If You Are:

  • Passionate about retail, sales-driven, enthusiastic for buying and selling

  • Good on details – ‘Retail is Detail!’

  • Organised, proactive, and reliable

  • Interested in fashion and keen to learn

  • Comfortable making decisions and taking ownership

  • Happy working in a fast-paced retail environment

  • A team player who enjoys working with people

What We Offer

  • A supportive, friendly team environment

  • The chance to shape our womenswear collections

  • Training and development in buying, merchandising, and stock management

  • Staff discount

  • Salary £24 - £28k a year
